From R-L SG of NCPBMC, Chairperson of the Commission, the Ambassador, 1st VP of the Commission and some officials of the Equato-Guinean Embassy in Cameroon
H.E. Armando Kote Echuaca, the Ambassador of Equatorial Guinea to Cameroon, visited the National Commission for the Promotion of Bilingualism and Multiculturalism on Tuesday, October 6, 2020. He was warmly received by the Commission’s President, Peter Mafany Musonge, alongside Vice President Oumarou Djika and Dr. Chi Asafor Cornelius.
After the audience, Ambassador Armando expressed his appreciation to the Commission’s President for the reception, outlining the purpose of his visit to the press. He explained that the primary reason for his visit was to discuss his country’s interest in bilingualism in Cameroon. Equatorial Guinea, being one of Cameroon’s close neighbors, has long benefitted from access to Cameroon’s educational facilities, with many Equatoguineans studying in English or French within the country. The Ambassador’s visit was aimed at addressing his country’s interest in the promotion of bilingualism, as many Equatoguineans find Cameroon to be a conducive environment for education.
Ambassador Armando highlighted the importance of linguistic ties between Cameroon and Equatorial Guinea. He emphasized that Equatoguineans coming to Cameroon should be proficient in Spanish, English, and French to feel at home, just as Cameroonians visiting Equatorial Guinea should also learn these languages to feel comfortable.
From the Ambassador’s perspective, mastering the national languages of both countries would allow citizens to feel at ease when crossing their respective borders. He added that languages should not divide us as Africans, as mutual understanding and cooperation are far more important.
