The Minister of Finance, Louis Paul Motaze, during his mission to the South Region to preside over the launch of the 2021 state budget, made a stop in Ambam, a locality in Cameroon’s South Region.

Motaze was warmly received in Ambam by the Senior Divisional Officer, the Divisional Officer, and the Mayor of the municipality, Zomo Ovono Samson, along with the local population and other state officials. Among those accompanying the minister were the Director General of Taxation, Fopa Modest, and the Director General of Budget, a native of Ambam, alongside several others.

The visit took place on Thursday, January 14, 2021, marking the final day of Motaze’s activities in the South Region. The primary purpose of the visit was to inaugurate the Ambam Financial Hall, a modern facility designed to provide a comfortable working environment for its staff.

The people of Ambam and surrounding areas in the Upper Valley Division turned out in large numbers to welcome Minister Louis Paul Motaze and his entourage, as they came to unveil the new financial infrastructure in their community.

Ambam, a border town in the South Region, shares boundaries with Gabon and Equatorial Guinea, making it a strategic location for cross-border opportunities.

In his welcome address, Mayor Zomo Ovono Samson praised the minister’s visit, highlighting the town’s geographical significance and the social aspects of its people. Ambam, like many other localities in the South Region, is rich in forest resources and holds great potential for agricultural activities.

Addressing the local population, Minister Motaze encouraged the people of Ambam to leverage their unique geographical position, which offers various opportunities due to its status as a border locality. He emphasized that agriculture, given the area’s natural resources, holds the key to better economic prospects.
“You know we have a new national strategy from 2020-2030, and the goal of this strategy is to transform our economy. I tried to explain to them that they can do a lot. The first is the transformation of agriculture,” said Louis Paul Motaze.

He stressed that his recommendation was not limited to traditional farming but modern agriculture, which can yield greater outputs.

The minister also took the opportunity to highlight the government’s efforts to encourage local production, aimed at reducing the volume of imports.

As the visit drew to a close, the Divisional Delegate of the Ministry of Public Works, Evina Judith, gave a presentation on the new Ambam Financial Hall. She noted that the imposing two-story building comprises 29 offices, toilets, a parking area, and a conference hall.
